ANC in decline and Zuma the reason

2016-08-11 06:00

THE final results of the recent local elections make it blatantly obvious that the ANC has been given a sound smack by the people of South Africa.

The ruling party can spin it as much as it would like, but it knows it as well as we do.

The ANC’s decline in support has been ongoing since 1994, but until 2009 and the coming of Jacob Zuma, it was largely imperceptible, and certainly not anything for the leadership to get concerned about.

Since then, however, its monolithic hold on power has become increasingly tenuous.

Again the ANC can deny it as vehemently as it likes, but it recognises this truth. Zuma, in all his brazen ineptitude and in-your-face arrogance, is very much the reason.

My advice to the opposition parties is to do all in their power to keep him in place until 2019, by which time voter support for the ANC will almost certainly have fallen below 50%.

And Jesus will still only be considering his second coming.
