FOUR armed suspected entered a furniture shop in Verulam and held up the staff demanding cash on Tuesday, October 17.

According to reports, the suspects entered the shop under the false pretext of purchasing furniture.

It alleged that two suspects distracted the cashier while the other two removed cash from the till.

Head of Reaction Unit South Africa Prem Balram said his control centre received a report about robbery in progress at the shop and officers responded.

“It could not be established if the suspects fled on foot or if they had a vehicle parked in the vicinity. No one was injured during the robbery.”

Captain Mark Prakasim from Verulam SAPS said police attended.

“We received a complaint and our members responded. The complainant didn’t want to open a case.”

The Weekly phoned the store for a comment, however, a senior employee, not authorised to speak to the media said: “We were advised by our head office not to give any media statements.”
