LOCAL singer and composer Ganess Marimuthu plans to honour the memory of his family with a Tamil CD titled Wunaiye Nenaithen.

The 57-year-old lost his family in a tragic accident five years ago in which he was the only survivor.

“My life hasn’t been the same without them and I wanted to do something in their memory so I want to [release] this CD [which is] dedicated to them,” said Marimuthu. “The songs are being done by myself and are about my memories of my wife and children.”

The CD, dedicated to his wife Sumi and children Tiara and Yudesh, will be in Tamil with elements of rap and also includes a few Zulu songs.

The title ‘Wunaiye Nenaithen’ which means thinking of you is the theme of the CD.

“I wanted to include bits of rap in it and Zulu to make it different and to appeal to both the young and old. We live in a diverse country and I want to spread this CD to as many people as possible because we have all lost someone who we are always thinking of,” said Marimuthu.

Marimuthu said he also hopes to attract young people to [Tamil] hence he has included rap in the compositions to give it a young feel for the youth.

Marimuthu has been singing from the age of 12 and picked his passion up from his father who was also a musician. Since his childhood, growing up in Plein Street and Gandhi’s Hill, he has been a member of several bands, but this is his first individual album.

“Music has been something I have always loved and I grew up with music always around me. It’s in my blood,” said Marimuthu.

“I have always wanted to make a CD and this will be very special to me because it’s for my family.”

The CD will contain around a dozen original compilations done by Marimuthu.

“I really want to get my thoughts out and this will be a very emotional CD which I hope will be a great tribute to my wife and children,” said Marimuthu.

Once the CD is complete early next year, Marimuthu will be creating a series of videos that tell the story of the songs in the CD.
