THE Verulam Athletic Club (Vac) resumed season 2019 with it’s weekly time trials on Saturday and airport runs on Sunday double header. Runners and walkers as well as the public are invited to participate in the event. Krish Naidoo and Nana Sigubudu led team Vac in the 15km edition run to the airport in 1:36 ahead of Jean Claude in 1:40 Benny eased through in 1:54 with a returning Cynthia Zondi in 2:13, three minutes after Vac Sportsperson of the year 2018, Ronnie Rangasamy.Sarah Naidoo led the 10km challenge in 1:13, ahead of Nan Maharaj in 1:20. Joey Chetty followed through in 1:47 leading the banter amongst his colleagues on the route ahead of Ben Padayachee and Anand Naicker in 1:48. Vishnu Moodley and Bobby Ramlagan finished in a sub hour 1:58.Johnny Karanjoo resumed training during the festive season and has shown steady progress in a 1:18 12km finish. Anand Naidoo eased through in 1:20. Sundree Ramlagan finished in 1:45, while Raeesa Bayat and Ricardo Nair finished the 12km in 1:48 with walker Beena Maharaj completing her 12km walk in 1:51.The season opener was also graced by two newcomers Benny and Shamilla Ishwarkumar who attempted the 5km preparatory run to Mount Moreland exit and back. 2019 sees interesting options available for the public and membership. The Sundays airport runs incorporates the 5km, 10km, 12km and 15km. Once a month, Vac introduces the Vac Challenge run and walk which comprises of 5, 10, 15 and 21.1km. Completion of 10 of these events will earn finishers a special award at the end of the year awards banquet. Membership will also receive a mileage award for mileage covered in time trials, Airport runs, ACC challenge and community outreach events. Membership is also invited for Saturday Time trials that takes in the Ottawa route with 4km and 8km options available. Staggered distances of 5km and 6km are also available on Saturdays.
