THE inaugural Safa Tongaat Tyre Track Ballito Senior Futsal League was decided at the weekend as Caplypso Sporting FC beat Railways FC 7-4 to lift the title.

Calypso Sporting FC had to come from two goals down to beat Railways FC which chairperson of the Safa Tongaat Fustal league, Tovey Ramnarain described as a tough victory with both teams chasing the title.

“It was a hard fought game and both teams were fighting for the top spot,” said Ramnarain.

“Calypso has been dominating the league and they finished undefeated through this win.”

Ramnarain said the league has been excellent through the season with tough games, comeback victories and team spirit.

“It was exceptional to see the caliber of talent in futsal in the first season of the league after a 3 year absence,” said Ramnarain.

“Futsal is a development sport throughout the world and we are looking to develop the sport locally.”

The league performances through the season has also seen brothers Veshay and Keshav Naidoo receive call ups for eThekwini City which play in the national futsal league.

“There is plenty of talent in our Futsal league and we [Safa Tongaat] would like to congratulate the teams who participated and next year we are looking for the league to be bigger and better with more teams and structures in place,” said Ramnarain.
