UTHONGATHI FC locked horns with Happy Wanderers in a much anticipated ABC Motsepe League away fixture in Port Shepstone over the weekend.

The Uthongathi FC ran out 2-1 winners. Goals of the day for the local boys were scored by Denklen Ngwetjana.

Playing with the wind in the first half the Cane Cutters were trailing the game 1-0 at half time.

The club said in a statement two substitutions were made in the second half, Artie Shitswele in for Khangelani Zungu and Khuzani Mbonambi coming in for Mapero Meso.

Head coach for Uthongathi FC Ron Gabriel said in a statement: "Those much inspired changes swung the match in the log leaders favor allowing them to take control of the game and push on for the win.

The equaliser being scored in 20 minutes into the second half and with the clock running out of time they eventually got the winner with Ngwetjana scoring another goal.

With four league games remaining the club is well on course to win the league title."

The club management led by president Nicolas Mkhize is appealing to the local community to come out in their numbers to support the club in their upcoming game against KwaDukuza United on Saturday, April 8 at the Shaik Mohideen Stadium.

The game will commence at 3pm.
