UTHONGATHI Football Club flew to the Eastern Cape to represent KwaZulu-Natal in the national games on Monday, May 29.

The team will lock horns with opponents coming from various provinces next week in Group B of ABC Motsepe National Play-Offs.

A send-off prayer, organised by ward councillor Zanele Khumalo, was held at the Tongaat Town
Hall on Monday in support to the team.

She told the Weekly that the Tongaat community was ecstatic about the boys representing KZN in the nationals.

Speaking on behalf of the fans of Uthongathi FC, Ndumiso Maphumulo said: “We hope our boys will raise the KZN flag high in the Eastern Cape.

“On June 11 we expect our boys [Cane Cutters] to play in the National First Division.”

President of the club Nico Mkhize reminded soccer players that they are the soldiers for the Tongaat community.

He also warned them not to accept bribes because that “will ruin the image of the club”.
