THE GT86 BRZ Owners Club KZN members held a charity day at the Haven of Rest in Tongaat recently to give back to the needy.

Club members and their families spent a day with underprivileged children, adults and senior citizens providing them with meals and interacting and keeping them company for the day.

Club member, Crispian Govender said their aim was to show those being taken care of by Haven of Rest that people care for them.

“The Haven of Rest caters for people who are in need and they need the support of the community so we pledged our support to them for the day,” said Govender. “We wanted to add positive feelings and put light into the lives of everyone there.”

The car club comprises of members from Tongaat and Verulam and areas throughout Durban who hope to make a difference in their communities.

The car club has been running for the past two years and this is one of several charity events it has been involved in since it was formed.

“Previously we did a toy run for underprivileged children and our whole idea behind what we do is making a positive difference in the lives of others,” said Govender.

He said they also wanted to change the perception that people with fast cars are irresponsible members of society by showing they care about their community.

“There are perceptions that people with fast cars are reckless and irresponsible so I think it’s nice when people with fast cars do something positive and give back,” said Govender.
“I think it also shows that being a car lover, owning a fast car doesn’t mean you have to be stereotyped.”

Going forward the club aims to do more to make a positive difference in the community and members hope to make their charity day at Haven of Rest an annual event.

Govender thanked club members who contributed towards making the day possible, but were not able to be present on the day.
