PUPILS at Flambel Primary School celebrated World Book Day recently.

The Tongaat Central Library co-ordinated storytelling, song and dance, and the art of learning reading through music, targeting pupils from grades R up to Grade 3.

Literacy Month was celebrated at Lotusville Primary as well, co-ordinated by the same team of Tongaat Central Library. Librarian Vigie Padayachee urged teachers and principles to start making membership to any library compulsory.

“The interaction with all children clearly indicated a need to emphasise the importance of reading.”

Teachers and pupils enjoyed this informal approach whilst also learning and understanding the importance of reading and belonging to a library.

Padayachee encouraged teachers to become institutional members and take out block loans of books and create reading corners in their class room.
