PARKGATE Celtics were crowned champions of the Verulam Premier League on Sunday managing to hold off a belated surge by Classic FC to eventually take top honours with relative ease.

The champions have completed a remarkable campaign only tasting defeat once and led the league for the majority of the season and ended as the league top goal scorers as well.

Captain Sifiso said he was very proud of his team’s achievements and they are happy to win the league and hope to do Verulam proud in the SAB league playoffs which they now qualify to play in.

The playoffs allow amateur teams to make the transition into the lowest professional football tier structure of South African football and it is a great opportunity for small teams to one day go on and compete with the traditional big boys of South Africa.

Verulam Football president Martha Narainsamy congratulated Parkgate Celtics on behalf of the executive for their great achievement and for playing fabulous football throughout the season.

He also took the time to thank all the teams that participated this season and promised them that next season will be even better and extended an open invite to the public to participate in football.

Narainsamy also thanked eThekwini Metro Parks and Gardens, who together with himself and the executive of Verulam Football, worked together to get the lights working at the Recreation and Trenance Park grounds.

The Verulam Football executive would also like to remind all clubs, junior winners and Verulam squads about their annual awards evening which takes place on 2 December at 6.30pm at Acacia Primary Hall.

All involved with Verulam Football are invited and all those who wish to join us for next season are also encouraged to come.

For more information, contact Martha Narainsamy on 072 762 1925 or general secretary Mazwayi on 079 306 2927.
