A LARGE contingent of enthusiastic road runners and race walkers were at the starting blocks of the hugely popular Checkout Challenge and 10km Challenge.

The race organised by Verulam Falcons saw a buoyant field of participants relish the fabulous route along the Durban promenade blessed with fantastic weather conditions.

The merry and chirpy participants were not only complementary about the route but were delighted with the amazing give-aways and t-shirts.

The half marathon was won by Jabulani Mkhize running in the colours of Phantane AC in a super time of 69 minutes. The womens race was won by the experienced Tanith Maxwell running for Boxer.

The 10km race was won by youthful Durban Runner athlete Lipschitz followed by Tebo Khanye from Toti. Westville runner Janie Grundling and Janine Carey running for Boxer were the leading female 10km runners.

Race organiser Amras Moodley was thrilled with the level of organisation delivered by Team Falcons and thanked supporting clubs for contributing to a memorable event.

Club chairperson Joyce Moonsamy lauded the sponsors the Checkout Group for the magnanimous support on an annual basis.
