Child drowns in Waterloo quarry

A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD boy drowned while swimming in a quarry in the Waterloo area in Durban near Verulam on Saturday 18 June at around midday.

According to Netcare 911 spokesperson Athlenda Mathe the boy was swimming with his friend in the quarry when he experienced difficulty and drowned.

“When Netcare 911 paramedics arrived on scene, we treated the friend for shock. The boy then walked home after he was assessed by a paramedic,” said Mathe.

“The boy who drowned was recovered by a rescue officer from eThekwini Fire and Rescue as well as officials from Emergency Control SA. The boy was declared dead on scene by a Netcare 911 paramedic.” - Supplied.
