THE Tongaat Central Library hosted a programme where they assisted those who wished to clear their criminal records and ensure they are employable once again.

Organisers of the programme thanked Freedoms South Africa who have come into the area to assist those who have criminal records by allowing them the opportunity to take back their dignity.

“They set up outside the library, under the carport, for private and confidential reasons.

“It was headed by Wayne and his team, who made the respondents feel free and comfortable to speak and get the help that they need,” said Vigie Padayachee from the Tongaat Central Library.

Vishnu Govender, a former Warrant Officer, volunteered to assist the team.

“We thank Vishnu for also helping to make a difference in our community,” she added.

Padayachee urges all those with criminal records to please engage this team and follow through in order to make progress.

“We also request that this message gets passed on to others that who are not aware that they can receive help on this matter.

“We also would like to thank the 18 people who responded, and wish them well into their next journey of freedom with responsibility,” added Padayachee.

The process of removal of criminal records are through expungement, presidential pardon or youth in conflict.
