A KZN couple who embarked on a mammoth challenge to run the entire coastline of the province in 30 days, are expected to complete the trek today.

Radio personality and businesswoman Phindi Gule-Burley and her husband Kevin started the “Run KZN with us” campaign on April 1 at Kosi Bay, near the Mozambican border, and ran 900 km to Port Edward on the South Coast, where they were expected to arrive at the weekend.

They run 30 km a day with a water break after every three kilometres in an effort to raise funds for children living at the LIV Village children’s home in Verulam.

The couple reached 870 km yesterday and rested at the Caribbean Estates in Port Edward.

Phindi previously saidthat until she started the quest, it had seemed “almost impossible to achieve”. She said it was a lesson that hard work pays off.

“I always think about the children when I feel challenged along the journey. I have a LIV Village band on my wrist and it always reminds me of the reason I started this journey,” she said.

The LIV Village caters for orphans and abandoned children. It costs R1 000 a month to accommodate a child at the facility. With 96 homes currently catering for 160 children, the couple aim to fund one home for 10 children for a year and will need to raise at least R120 000.
