RIYADH Cricket Club celebrated their 35 year anniversary at Mumbai Dreams in Verulam at the weekend.

The club, which plays in the Challenge Reserve 40 over and 20 over leagues as Verulam 2, also honoured former players and captains, including community members and families who have supported the club over the years.

Club manager Santosh Premlal said it has been an honour to manage the club and see the talented players which have emerged in its glorious history.

Premlal said the anniversary event was also about honouring patrons of the club who have supported the club through sponsorship or supportive roles in the club management.

“We have had many talented players who have worn the colours of the club and who have dedicated their time to pass their skills to the younger generation over the years,” said Premlal. “We have also had families and community members who have given the club immense support in ensuring the progression of the sport in the community.”

Premlal said the hope of the community, management, current and former players is to see the continued growth of the club and talented players emerge from its ranks.

“We have had some incredible players through our history and we hope to continue the trend of producing top players from Verulam. We hope to see players emerge from the club to go on to play the sport at international level,” said Premlal.

Guest of honour at the anniversary was chairman of the Verulam Cricket Union, Kugen Subrayen and president of the Verulam Sports Council Macky Moodley.

Premlal thanked the various sponsors who helped make the day possible such as Tata Motors, Lees Electronics and Mishen’s Liquors.
