Dawncrest Astro Turf hosts a successful junior soccer tournament

AN end of season junior soccer tournament was held at the Dawncrest Astro Turf recently.

Seven schools comprising 21 teams participated in the end of season indoor championship.

The event was well-attended by a large crowd of parents, pupils and teachers. There was a lot of excitement among the teams and supporters alike.

The Department of Sport and Recreation once again sponsored all the medals and trophies.

Tonver president Guru Ramcharan thanked the Department of Sport and Recreation for its support and commitment in developing soccer in Verulam.

Ramchran said: “Praise must go to the organisers for their outstanding initiative and organisation of this tournament.”

Ramcharan also thanked the organisers for keeping soccer alive in the Verulam region.

The winners in the U9 category were teams from Verulam Islamic School and Verulam Primary School. In the U11 category Redcliffe Primary emerged victorious followed by Acacia Primary. In the U13 category, Acacia Primary won the game followed by Verulam Islamic School. -Supplied
