eThekwini to probe ‘leak’

2016-03-10 06:00

ETHEKWINI Municipality will launch a full investigation into who leaked an unofficial document that provided details of alleged water restrictions across the city.

The document caused panic among residents this week after it was circulated.

In light of the drought crisis the city has implemented measures such as installing restricters and education campaigns on water conservation, however head of eThekwini Water and Sanitation Ednick Msweli said the document was not an official document by eThekwini Municipality. The municipality said the investigation would also authenticate the document.

“Water restrictions would be a last option after all other water-saving measures had been exhausted,” said Msweli.

eThekwini mayor James Khumalo said any planned restrictions will be carefully considered and proper consultation with affected communities will take place before water curtailing measures are implemented.

A special full council meeting will be held this Friday where a presentation by the eThekwini Water and Sanitation Department will be made for all councillors. — The Witness.
