Falcons arise victors in Mandela Legacy Challenge

CHECKOUT Verulam Falcons AC’s Celiwe Ndaba and Eddie Singh triumphed at the Mandela Legacy Challenge in the female and male walker’s categories while youngster Phumelele Khuzwayo came second in the juniors’ female run category.

The Mandela Legacy Challenge was held to in memory of freedom fighter and late President Mr Nelson Mandela. The raced was hosted by Phoenix Villagers AC at Rydalvale Sports Ground. 
Athletes were challenged with an uneven surface route and the 10km distance participants had an additional 1.2km to complete.

The club said in a statement: “Despite the challenges, the race was successful for Falcons. Noteworthy mentions were 76-year KB Chain who ran the 11.2km in 1:23, 79-year Vincent Reddy and 77-year Ebrahim Asmal walked the same distance in 1:46 and 1:51 respectively.
Sagren Reddy led the 11.2km run for Falcons and finished in 60 minutes.”

Checkout Verulam Falcons AC’s Charity 5km Fun Run is on September 2 commencing at 8am at Verulam Secondary School Grounds.
