Falcons break waves in City Marathon

THE Durban City Marathon, half marathon and 10 km walk was hosted on April 15 along the Durban Promenade.

Checkout Verulam Falcons AC played a prominent part in the event. More than 30 members participated over the three distances. Mzwanele Shabane displayed his class by pushing the pace to fly across the marathon in a time of 2.52 minutes.

The other Falcons marathon finishers were 2017 comrades’ novice finisher Nkosingiphile Mkhize, Comrades double green number Bonginkosi Ngubane, Bhekithemba Ncube, Sanjeev Roopnarian, Mike Padayachee, Cindeera
Padavattan and Benjamin Ramnarian.

The bulk of Falcons participants were in the half marathon with 18 members participating.

Talente Ngiba displayed a bundle of energy in the 21.1 km. His teammates Ningi Ntombela and Sophia Ismail had two-hour finishes as well. Ntombela and Ismail were in fine form and looked comfortable throughout the race.

The club’s juniors dominated the 10 km run. Senior runner Ismaeel Mahomed, guided junior speedster Bilal Rasool to a 57 minutes finish. Mahomed’s support and encouragement helped Rasool shave off two minutes from his personal best.

Other juniors Phumelele Khuzwayo and Nikhil Ramnarayan had strong 10 km runs.
Eddie Singh and Jay Fakir represented Falcons in the 10 km walk.

Checkout Verulam Falcons AC’s 21.1 km and 10 km will be held on May 6 at Kingspark Athletic Stadium.
