CHECKOUT Verulam Falcons had a bumper Heritage weekend filled with many sporting events.

Mzwanele Shabani attended the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon and clocked a fast time of 2.53. The youngster enjoyed his first outing to the beautiful city.

Suveer Basdew continued with his steady form as he completed back to back races over the weekend. He completed the Chesterville 10 km in 1.14 as well as the Indentured 1860 Challenge.

There were 30 other Falcons members joining him on Heritage Day for the Indentured 1860 Challenge.

Ceceila Zweni opted for the 5 km course and completed it in 35 minutes.

Fit and agile, Ashwin Bidesi continued his fine running form to lead Falcons runners in a time of 56 minutes.

Also showing considerate improvement in their running, as they clocked their season’s personal best, were Abdool Essack (1.01) and Veeran Ramnarayan (1.18).

Falcons walkers Celiwe Ndaba and Eddie Singh dominated yet again with podium finishes. Ndaba took second place while Singh took third place.

Falcons had a bus of 12 runners who completely comfortably under 1.30.

Amres Moodley and Krish Vadivelu, who ran the bus, explained it is important to support and encourage others.

The 24th leg of the Asmals Hypersave was held last Sunday.

Despite the thunder and rain, a gritty group of members attended.

Mongi Tshikitshwa led the 15 km run whilst Abdool Essack and Eddie Singh led the 10 km run and walk respectively.

In other news, the Golden Games was held in Richards Bay.

Falcons Savy Govender, who turned 75 years old recently, participated and came third.

The ecstatic grandmother received a bronze medal.
