A BAND of 30 Checkout Verulam Falcons members participated in the popular SAPS half marathon and 10km races over the weekend.

Fabulous cool overcast conditions welcomed runners to the scenic coastal route as participants ran over a double lap route on the Durban promenade, Ushaka and Point Waterfront.

The perfect weather conditions were complemented by a flat and fast course. However, rusty race feet and at times strong southerly winds made for difficult running at the back end of the race.

Lanky Falcons’ runner, Mongi Tshikitiswa led Team Falcons in the half marathon finishing in 96 minutes. He was followed by a trio of runners including Sanjeev Rupnarain, Sagren Reddy and Sophie Ismail.

Walking wizard, Celiwe Ndaba was the leading walker and finished in a superlative time of 2:43 securing 3rd position in the event.

Cicilia Zweni and Bongani Ndaba were the leading 10km runners and walkers respectively.
