CHECKOUT Verulam Falcons launched the 2017 season with great flamboyance and electric enthusiasm as more than 50 members welcomed the opening event of the year.

The club said in a statement the spontaneous response for the fifth Asmals Hypersave Series signals a season of great optimism and endless possibilities as both runners and walkers set their goals to achieve personal milestones from extended distances to faster times and participating in ultimate challenges like participating in the Comrades Marathon.

“Whatever the individual aspirations are, the club serves as a conduit for each individual to aspire to greater heights and triumphs.

“The evergreen Ari Perumal led the 15km runners in a commendable season opening time of 1h24. He was followed home by comeback kid Vigie Naidoo ten minutes later. Walking maestro Eddie Singh was back to his speedy walking as he led the walkers in 1h48.

“The 10km runners were led by the lanky Sagran Reddy who is displaying some good form out of the recess festive season.

“The tough Anuradha Nehore was the first lady home. Premi Reddy and Dan Moonsamy were the leading 10km walkers with encouraging times.”
