CHECKOUT Verulam Falcons athletes participated in the famous South Coast Marathon at the weekend.

The changed race format from a point to point to an out and back proved to be more challenging and the coastal humidity made for difficult running.

This impacted on the performances of runners as the energy sapping return leg of the race with the long snaking hill at the tail end of the race through Amanzimtoti proving challenging.

Team Falcons were led by stalwarts Sanjeev Roopnarian and Vitasha Ramnarayan.

Walking maestro Eddie Singh and training colleague Celiwe Ndaba walked the 42km race with a credible performance.

Meanwhile 40 Falcons members participated in the 35th Leg of the Asmals Hypersave Series with commendable performances recorded by Sagran Reddy, Farouk Kadwa and Ashwin Bedesi.

Checkout Verulam Falcons will be hosting the Checkout Half marathon and 10km run/walk on 6 November.

The race route is a scenic coastal route running along the Durban promenade.

Race organiser Amras Moodley is upbeat about delivering a good race for all.

All participants will receive a T-shirt and goodie bag. Moodley has indicated that it is all systems go and all technical matters have been attended to. He added that anchor sponsor the Checkout Group has pulled out all stops in ensuring that the race is a resounding success. Race entry for 21km is R80 and R50 for the 10km. The race starts at 6.30am outside the Kings Park Stadium.
