THE Checkout Verulam Falcons AC displayed its quality by having members representing the team at the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon. Logan Pillai completed his 20th ultra in 6:24.

Strini Nadesan had taken advantage of the cool conditions with a strong first half. He took it easy over the challenging Chapman's Peak and Constantia Nek to be the first Falcons home in 6:15.

From the Two Oceans [Marathon], he obtained14 bronze medals and six blue medals.

His teammate Marlene Pillay, the only Falcons’ female in the marathon, had an unfortunate tumble at the start. However, she displayed true courage and went on to finish just outside the seven hours cut-off time.

Bala Govender finished his 12th Two Oceans in 6.52. In the half-marathon, Krish Vadivelu was the leading Falcon’s athlete in 2.38.

Other 21.1 km participants were Sharon Sivapurshad, Nomusa Magubane and Ayesha, Zahraa and Mishka Jadwat.

Closer to home, the Peace in Africa race was held at Kings Park Athletic Stadium in Durban on Sunday, March 2. Ashwin Bidesi led the half-marathon challenge for the Falcons. Whilst in the 10km run, Joseph Mangcwangule sprinted through the flat course in 39 minutes. He was followed by youngster Bilal Rasool in 59 minutes despite cramping caused by the intense heat.

Checkout Verulam Falcons AC’s 21.1 km and 10 km race will be held at Kings Park Athletic Stadium on May 6.
