Falcon’s walking lizard wins eThekwini township marathon

LINDIWE Hlongwa finished first at the eThekwini Township marathon held on 26 September from uMlazi to KwaMashu.

Hlongwa, a member of Checkout Verulam Falcons, said that she was over the moon after winning the marathon.

“There were various categories and in the first category I came first and I was placed 10th in the second category. I am very excited and there is still more is to come,” she said.

Hlongwa promised to wow her supporters in the next marathon.

“I need more training in order to keep on winning the marathon. I promise to keep impressing my supporters in the races to come and they must keep on supporting us,” she said.

However, according to chairman of the Falcons, the route always proves to be challenging which winds through from the south making its way to the north of the Durban CBD.

Chairperson of Checkout Verulam Falcons Yunus Doba said in a statement: “This is a tremendous achievement in the context of the route and the quality out on display for the event.

Doba said that Falcons members also participated in the 33rd leg of the Asmals Hypersave Series from Verulam towards Tongaat last week.
