TONGAAT Secondary School hosted a plaque unveiling ceremony on March 26 in appreciation of the R26 000 donated towards the school’s wall project in May 2015.

Former resident of Plane Street Aru Govender interacted with Eric Rangappa of Verulam in securing the sponsorship.

The funds were raised at a silver jubilee celebration by pioneer members of Icasa, K Rajendran from India and Govender, now both Australian citizens.

Govender, who is a former pupil of Tongaat Secondary, travelled from Australia to attend the function.

The plaque will be displayed in the foyer of the school’s office building.

The donation was made with the full support and blessings of the Brindha Pillay (president), Loga Pillay (treasurer) and members of Icasa.

Govender also donated a further R500 on behalf of his son Jayseelan Govender who was placed in the top 10 in the 1978 Senior Certificate Examination at the school.

The principal Rajen Singh said it was heart-warming to see former pupils give back to their alma mater.
