THERE was a back-to-back race on the KZN athletics race calendar last week. On the Saturday, the Hope and Abstinence Challenge was held at Curries Fountain. Celiwe Ndaba and Cecelia Zweni tackled the hilly race in light rain. The duo took part in the KwaMashu Challenge with Eddie Singh at the Princess Magogo Stadium.

Singh proved his might with a first place in the grand masters category walk. Ndaba finished third in the ladies 10km walk and second in her age category. The second leg of the 2018 development series was well supported with 49 members attending the league. Newcomer policeman Rafik Singh from Phoenix joined the league and completed his first 15km in 1:40. Amres Moodley extended his run to 21km, in preparation for long-distance races, and completed in 2:20. The oldest member and arguably one of the fittest senior citizens in Verulam, Ebrahim Asmal took on the 15km with his walking partner Steve Moonsamy and finished in 2:25. Falcons AC is hosting their 20th anniversary and awards banquet on December 9 at 6pm at the Day Care Centre Hall. A three-course supper will be served with entertainment. - Supplied.
