THE Checkout Verulam Falcons hosted their annual presentation and awards function at the weekend.

The ambience was fun-filled and atmosphere electric as every member was recognised for their achievements of the season.

Chairperson Joyce Moonsamy reflected on a fabulous season and took pride in the list of notable achievements from the success of the Checkout Half Marathon to the Comrades Marathon and the nostalgic reunion held in June.

Amongst the various stars of the evening the shining stars were undoubtedly Derrick Gumede and Lindiwe Hlongwa who had memorable seasons by smashing the club's Comrades Marathon record.

Gumede was also placed in the top 75 in the Comrades and Hlongwa being placed in the Township to Township marathon. They were declared as runners of the year. Eddie Singh and Celiwe Ndaba were awarded the walkers of the year award.

Other notable achievements were Logan Pillai and Eddie Singh who were recognised for completing 20 Comrades Marathons. Dhiren Govender, Bongiwe Majozi, Alex Ngcobo achieving the green numbers for completing 10 Comrades. Govender also achieved his blue number for completing 10 Two Oceans Marathons. Marlene Pillay, Yunus Doba, Chantal Rajoo, Farouk Kadwa were awarded Silver and Bronze Category awards. Ebrahim Asmal, Eddie Singh and Celiwe Ndaba received walkers Platinum Awards for completing in excess of 750km as walkers.

Various sponsors and well wishers were acknowledged but special accolades were reserved for the Checkout Group and Asmals Hyper Save.
