Haven of Rest, SAPS host important programme

ON 1 December the Haven of Rest, the Tongaat SAPS and Tongaat Trauma Centre staff hosted an awareness programme for former substance abusers to educate them about the spread of HIV.

A panel discussion was led by a representatives from the Tongaat SAPS and Warrant Officer Manisha Maharaj-Marie.

Former substance abusers, currently under the rehabilitation process at the Haven of Rest shared their life stories and appealed to the community to give them a chance to repent.

Tongaat SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer Maharaj-Marie told the Weekly: “We spoke to [former] substance users to highlight their actions and effects this had on their families, and we got into a dialogue where they gave their stories and experiences about their lives, and they enjoyed the programme.”

The function was in line with the World Aids Day that is commemorated worldwide every year on 1 December.
