THE International Karate Daigaku (IKD) originates from Toronto Canada and is governed worldwide under Shuseki Shihan Frank Woon-A-Tai who currently holds a 9th Degree Black Belt in Shotokan Karate.
He mastered the art of karate through being a student of Master Teruyuki Okazaki (10th Dan) and Master Yutaka Yaguchi (9th Dan).

Both men trained under Masters Gichin Funakoshi (Founder of Mordern Day Karate) and Masatoshi Nakayama (Master Funakoshi’s student).

IKD Karate is rapidly growing and is now based in 46 countries and 70 regions throughout the world, since it’s inception in 2011.

International Karate Daigaku expanded it’s roots to South Africa in 2015.
Sensei Denzil Govender (6th Dan Shotokan) is currently the head and chief instructor of IKD in South Africa, and surrounding African countries.

Sensei Govender has been practicing karate for the past 27 years.
In his karate career he had received many accolades and titles from provincial to national colours.

In 2001 he had received the silver award by the regional chief director of the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education and Culture for karate, and has worked together with various community councillors as well as the South African Police Services in the development and upliftment of disadvantaged children and abused women.

Today IKDSA (International Karate Daigaku South Africa) is one of South Africa’s leading organisation’s and has become a dynamic, modern karate organisation with dojos throughout KZN, Gauteng and surrounding African countries.

In joining IKDSA, affiliated members have the privilege of being recognised Internationally and competing in world class events such as international karate tournaments, international gradings and courses.

The organisation has an exciting year ahead as a team of 15 karatekas prepare to participate in the IKD World Cup Championships scheduled to be held in August this year in Barbados.

They will compete in their respective age categories against karatekas from 53 other countries.
They also have a year planner scheduled to conduct various community outreach programmes, feeding schemes and development projects throughout the year for abused women and children, and wish to welcome any persons or organisations to assist and join IKDSA if interested.
