WATERLOO residents, ward councillor Johnson Chetty, Rotary Club of Umhlanga members and Church of God of Waterloo embarked on a clean-up campaign on Saturday, November 4, the aim of which was to encourage residents to keep their environment clean.

The clean-up started in Phase two in the morning and the youth joined in cleaning streets and streams.

“The enthusiastic youngsters were motivated by the gifts that the members of Rotary had sponsored.

It is extremely heartening to see people taking the initiative to ensure that we live in an environment that is litter free,” said Chetty.

Chetty said while the youth and the residents undertook the task with enthusiasm, it also helped them to sharpen their leadership skills and become a team player.

President-elect of the club Peter Harmsen said their members helped the children and teenagers to clean up the Future Stars Football Academy for training.

“As part of the arrangement, the football academy agreed to do a monthly clean-up in return for water from neighbouring houses. Rotary last week also gave the academy soccer balls, team uniform bibs and other paraphernalia.”
