THE Tongaat Women in Conversation held an event in aid of 16 Days of Activism at Magwaveni on Saturday, December 8.

At the event, children were educated about their rights to protect themselves and both women and children were motivated to speak out against abuse.

Mogie Padayachee, from Tongaat Women in Conversation, said: “There were various motivational speakers who spoke to the audience on their fundamental human right to act against abuse and to break the cycle of violence against women and children. The event was a campaign to challenge violence against women and children.”

The community was encouraged to strive towards a collective responsibility in the fight to eradicate violence against women and children.

Padayachee said members of the group were delighted with the community’s involvement, adding that: “The event served as an important platform in promoting transformation to end violence and to empower women and children.”
