THE International Karate Daigaku South Africa awarded its two karatekas recently for their outstanding achievements made in 2016.
Bevashen Deepanand scooped the 2016 sports boy award while Jocelyn Pillay received the 2016 sports girl award.
Deepanand, a pupil from Phoenix, said he was not expecting the award and was concentrating on earning his Shodan black belt in 2017.
Deepanand was ecstatic that he was chosen as IKDSA sportsboy for 2016.
Jocelyn Pillay, a pupil from Tongaat area was equally shocked, but thrilled at being given her new title as the IKDSA sports girl for 2016.
Sensei Denzil Govender said that karate is a universal sport and can be practised by anyone regardless of age, gender or limitations.
“It is never too late to begin and practise. We at IKDSA urge local communities to take advantage of karate dojos in your area to keep fit, improve your health, build confidence, self esteem, discipline and self defense skills.”
