Man apprehended for theft of meat

2018-09-06 06:00

A 30-year-old man was apprehended after he attempted to flee a supermarket situated on Gopalall Hurbans Road, Tongaat, with R450 worth of meat this past Saturday.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) were called out to the store after the suspect was apprehended.

Upon arrival it was established the suspect had purchased meat at the same store the day before.

On Saturday he returned with his 10 year old nephew and proceeded to the butchery to select meat to the value of R450. He then attempted to walk out of the store without paying.

When questioned by security, he produced a cash sale slip for the meat he had purchased the day before.

While being interviewed, he abandoned his nephew and fled the store. Security officers pursued and apprehended him.

According to Rusa, the suspect is a known drug user and it is believed that he was going to sell the meat and the profits from the sale were going to be used to purchase drugs. — Supplied.
