A 23-YEAR-OLD man, who stabbed his girlfriend to death in Jacaranda Avenue in Mountview last Sunday, was arrested on Monday, September 4.

The suspect had been in hiding after stabbing his 28-year-old girlfriend after they had argued.

According Reaction Unit South Africa, the victim sustained two stab wounds to her body, one on her chest, the other on her back.

“It is alleged the couple had been arguing throughout the night on Sunday about his [suspect] infidelity.”

The deceased leaves her two-month-old baby, who was there at the time of the incident.

Chairperson of a local movement group against women abuse, the Prevention in Action Stop Violence Against Women,
Gopaul Naicker asked the public to support victims of abuse.

“We always help destitute families and give them moral support. Our mission is clear - we say no more to women and children abuse.

“We are very concerned about these incidents. My condolences go to the family who lost their daughter. People who have been the victims of abuse must visit our organisations for trauma counselling,” said Naicker.

Ward councillor Johnson Chetty said: “As the ward councillor I am extremely disturbed to hear that another woman has lost her life in such a violent manner. This is totally unacceptable.
“I wish the family peace at this time of bereavement. I hope the law takes its course and the perpetrator faces justice.”

Police spokesperson in Verulam Captain Henry Kisten confirmed that the suspect had been detained at the police station.

“The suspect was charged with murder. He is expected to appear at Verulam Magistrate's Court soon.”
