Man shot and killed in Tongaat

2016-06-09 06:00

THE community of Magwaveni was left in shock on Sunday, 29 May when a man was shot multiple times at Teacher’s Trading in Magwaveni, Tongaat.

Trevor Sannigadu (39) was shot twice in the chest and a third time on the right side of his stomach at around 7.15pm last Sunday, which left him in a critical condition when paramedics arrived.

As policed arrived at the scene of the shooting, officers were informed that Sannigadu had been taken to Victoria Hospital for emergency treatment, where he died.

Sannigadu’s body was then taken to Phoenix mortuary, where it was identified.

Warrant Officer Manisha Maharaj-Marie at Tongaat SAPS said the killing of Sannigadu is the second case of murder in just two days in the Tongaat area, with the murder of a 28-year-old woman in La Mercy the very next day.

“Thandolwakhe Nokay was stabbed on the left side of her chest at her home in Pholani informal settlement in La Mercy at around 12am on Monday, 30 May,” said Maharaj-Marie.

She added that police are currently investigating the murders of both victims and that the two cases appear to be unrelated.
