2016-12-08 06:01

A MAN was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment at the Verulam Magistrate’s Court for the unlawful possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition on 5 December.

Luvuyo Dindi was arrested in Gwala’s Farm after the Tongaat police received information from Crime Intelligence about a person in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Police spokesperson in Tongaat Warrant officer Manisha Maharaj-Marie said: “The arresting officers proceeded to Gwala’s Farm and the suspect was located. He was searched whereby two firearms and ammunition were found in his possession.

“During the trial stages the investigating officer Detective Constable H. Naidoo was asked to trace defence witness which is not part of the police mandate to do so. However, the investigating officer managed to trace the defence witness and took the witness to court. The court found the suspect guilty.

“The station commander commended the arresting officer and detective officer on their dedication and commitment to the community.”
