Mandela my life my future challenge

2015-12-10 06:00

THE legacy of South African icon Nelson Mandela will be celebrated this year with a Mandela My Life My Future 10km/5km Challenge along the Durban beach promenade on 15 December at 6:15pm.

The race will start and finish at the Green Hub, Blue lagoon in Durban.

The race is a flat, picturesque 10km run and walk as well as a 5km run and walk.

Proceeds from the event go towards My Life My Future social skills projects and campaigns.

The race is presented by the Ilembe Education District, Lower Tugela Life Skills Committee in collaboration with Run For Fun Athletic club and Fields Hill Water as hydration partners for the race.

The organisers envisage a twilight night run this year with a 6:15pm start that will allow for participants to take in the breathtaking sea view along the coast.

The evening start is a change from the routine early morning races.

According to the organisers, it will be a two leg event next year with the Mandela 67 Challenge in July and Mandela My Life My Future 10km Challenge at the end of the year.

This years finishers for the 10km run/walk will receive t-shirts, while 5km finishers will receive medals.

Entries for the 10km run and walk is R60 pre entry and R70 on race afternoon with the first 500 finishers receiving t-shirts and the balance receiving commemorative medals. The 5km fun run/walk costs R20 per person, with participants receiving medals.

Local athletic clubs and organisations that want to do group bookings and race number collection are welcomed.
