Metro cop shot and wounded

AN off-duty Metro police officer (40) is fighting for her life in hospital after she narrowly escaped death when she was shot and wounded in Verulam on November 17.

The police officer was seated in her stationary vehicle in Champion Crescent when an unknown person shot her multiple times in the head and body.

The head of Reaction Unit South Africa, Prem Balram, said in a statement: “She was rushed to hospital privately. At least 10 spent cartridges were found at the scene. The motive for the shooting is yet to be established.”

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele confirmed the shooting incident.

“She was rushed to hospital for medical attention.

“The suspect supposedly fled the crime scene in a Hyundai.

“A case of attempted murder was opened at the Verulam Police Station for investigation.”
