Mosque to hold prayer for slain worshipper

2018-06-28 06:03

ALMOST a month has passed since the Imam Husain Mosque in Ottawa came under attack, forcing its management to shut it down for three weeks.

Abbas Essop (34) died and two others were injured when unknown men entered the building and attacked worshipers while a prayer was in progress. Founder of the Imam, Husain Mosque Azad Seedat, confirmed that services have since resumed at the mosque and on Sunday, worshippers will hold a prayer in remembrance of Essop.

Seedat said Essop sacrificed his life to defend the house of Allah (God). “The building is under renovations as it was burnt.

“However, we have now opened it to our devotees to use,” he said.

No arrest have been made but the Hawks said investigations are underway, with it being treated as a high-profile case.
