A MOTHER (72) and her daughter (33) were shot dead at their home in Magwaveni outside Tongaat on Sunday, October 7.

The motive for the murder has not yet been established however, it is alleged that the daughter’s boyfriend had arrived at her home on the day of the incident and they had an argument. The man then allegedly drew a firearm and shot his girlfriend and her mother before fleeing the scene.

IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst said they responded to a house in Tongaat following calls for assistance.

Police spokesperson in Tongaat Captain Patrick Ngwane said: “Police attended a complaint of shooting at Magwaveni area.

“Upon the police’s arrival, when they entered the house, they noticed two women lying on their stomachs in a pool of blood.

“It was established that the victims had both sustained fatal injuries from gunshot wounds.”

A case of double murder was opened for investigation. The suspect is still at large.

Ngwane added: “The matter is being investigated by SAPS Tongaat detectives and arrest is imminent.”

Ward councillor Zanele Khumalo said family members fled from the area after the incident.

“We conducted a prayer at the home where the women were killed.

“We tried making contact with them, and we were told that relatives are frightened to come back to their home,” Khumalo said.

The funeral will held at Bhamshela on Sunday.

“We have asked the SAPS to escort us to the funeral,” Khumalo said.
