JAPAN’S two-time world champion Manabu Murakami turned on the heat last weekend at the Skisa Masters Camp held at KZN’s Tongaat Sports Centre.

A record attendance of local karateka were put through their paces at the four technically advanced workshops during which the young men and women in attendance were made to sweat.

“Maestro Murakami is much sought after throughout the globe, especially, given his special brand of techniques that he brings to the countries he visits to conduct his masters camp,” said technical director of Skisa Brando Pillay Shihan.

“He has the uncanny knack of bringing out the best in our local karateka as he is an attention to detail teacher of the art, so despite pushing the attendees to the limits, they come out of his sessions very encouraged and more determined to succeed,” said South Africa’s karate legend Sonny Pillay Hanshi.

“Skisa has hosted its grandmaster Murakami for the past 18 years consecutively as he is held in very high esteem here in South Africa and he is always willing to walk the extra mile with our local karate, moreover Skisa is looking forward to having him here in 2019 once again,” said Pillay Hanshi, who is also President of KSA.

“I have been several times to KZN province and I have keenly noted that every time I conduct masters camps there is all round improvement made by the karateka and this inspires me to come again and again,” said Murakami during a TV interview last week in Durban. Skisa hosted a gala Sayonara party as a culmination of the grandmaster Murakami’s 10-day visit to our shores.
