MURDER accused, Praveen Soonur (35), was found guilty and sentenced to 12 years imprisonment at the Verulam Regional Court on October 3 for a crime committed in the Rajkumars

According to the information received from Tongaat SAPS, on Saturday December 3, 2016, the accused fatally stabbed the victim multiple times in the neck because he suspected the victim was having an affair with his wife.

SAPS Tongaat spokesperson Captain Patrick Ngwane said a swift response by the police led to the arrest of the suspect, with the help of the community, at the scene.

“A murder docket was opened and the accused was detained at SAPS Tongaat.

“The murder docket was assigned to Detective Constable H
Naidoo for investigation.

“The accused gave the investigating officer a difficult time by not co-operating.”

Ngwane said the investigating officer managed to trace a state witness and got an outstanding witness statement.

The accused eventually pleaded guilty at the Verulam Regional Court.

The station commander Colonel Santha Moodley commended
Detective Constable H Naidoo for
his commitment and dedication
that led to the conviction of the accused.

She welcomed the sentence handed down to the accused and believes that this will serve as a strong warning to the perpetrators of crime.
