CHRISTMAS came early for some needy families in Tongaat after the ward 61 councillor Dolly Munien in conjunction with an engineering company donated groceries to the needy families last Friday.

The first beneficiary was Narainsamy Thanthoni (52) from Flamingo Heights.

“Due to the unemployment rate that we have in our community, many families are struggling to make ends meet.

“We are grateful to our councillor for making this generous donation to us,” said Thanthoni.

Another beneficiary was Rachel Dlamini (57), a resident from Hambanathi.

“I am very grateful to be among the people who received the groceries and this will help us feed our children. As a breadwinner at home everything is on me and it is my responsibility to ensure that my children have something to eat everyday.”

A representative from Aurecon Consulting Engineers Ricky Moodley said: “We donated 15 food hampers to the office of the councillor so that she could identify needy people among her community who will be the beneficiaries.”

Munien said: “The engineering company asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I told them that whatever they were willing to donate it must be given to the community that I represent.”
