House robbery

TONGAAT SAPS are investigating a case of house robbery at Newtown at the weekend during which a brother and sister were assaulted and robbed.

SAPS communications officer Warrant Officer Manisha Maharaj-Marie said the victim was asleep at home when he heard what sounded like a window breaking.

“He went outside to check what was happening and he saw three men, one holding a firearm and the others holding knives,” said Maharaj-Marie.

“The one with the firearm struck him on the head and pushed him towards his sister’s house where they had broken the window.”

Maharaj-Marie said they kicked down the door and demanded cash.

“When his sister informed them there was no money they assaulted her on her head with a firearm,” said Maharaj-Marie.

“She then handed them a pillow case with R7 000 in cash and they took R100 in coins before fleeing.”
