House robbery

TONGAAT SAPS are investigating a house robbery in Emona where a woman was robbed of her phone.

Tongaat SAPS communications officer Warrant Officer Manisha Maharaj-Marie said the victim was at home when she heard a noise and contacted the police. “She then noticed [a man], well built, approaching her, demanding her cellphone,” said Maharaj-Marie.

Maharaj-Marie said according to the victim one of the men entered the house, pulled his T-shirt over his face and pulled her phone away, then both suspects fled.

House robbery

A woman was allegedly robbed of cash and her cellphone at midnight in Magwaveni recently.

Tongaat SAPS communications officer Warrant officer Manisha Maharaj-Marie said according to the victim she was asleep and was awoken by a light at her window. “She noticed [a man] with a firearm pointed at her,” said Maharaj-Marie.

“He demanded her cellphone and cash.” Maharaj-Marie said according to the victim after she gave her cellphone, he demanded another cellphone and she handed her mother’s cellphone and R1 300 in cash.

“He then entered the house and demanded more,” said Maharaj-Marie.


Tongaat SAPS are appealing for anyone with information on the recent rape of a woman in Magwaveni to come forward. Tongaat SAPS communications officer Warrant Officer Manisha Maharaj-Marie said according to the victim she was at her boyfriend’s home when two men forced open the door and grabbed her.

“When her boyfriend tried to intervene, he was stabbed,” said Maharaj-Marie.

“The complainant was taken into the sugar-cane field and raped by both suspects.”

Heroin possession

Tongaat SAPS crime prevention members Constable Woodraj, Constable Liash Naidoo, and Constable Giren Ramjeewan arrested several suspects for possession of 20 straws of heroin in Hamanathi

Tongaat SAPS arrested three people for possession at a property in Rajkumar at the weekend.

Tongaat SAPS communications officer Warrant Officer Manisha Maharaj-Marie said Sergeant TM Govender received information there was drug-related activity at premises in Rajkumar.

Maharaj-Marie said police saw activity at the premises and when it was searched they recovered 74 heroin tablets and arrested three suspects who are expected to appear in court this week. - Supplied.
