TRADERS at the Verulam Morning Market whose stalls were demolished in May are asking the provincial government to assist them get back to their trading places.

The eThekwini Municipality demolished the trading stalls on level three at the Morning Market in May and gave them a new site at the bottom of the market.

Traders opposed the demolition of their stalls and raised concerns about the new place.
The traders claim they were not consulted about the demolition, however, the municipality said “traders were informed of the renovations­ of the non-occupied stalls at the market”.

Coastal Weekly published the story about the demolition of the stalls in May detailing how it affected the stall owners.

The Weekly revisited the market last Tuesday to check whether there were new developments as the municipality promised to complete renovations in May.
