MORE than 1 000 devotees attended the kavady and fire walking at the Shree Draupathieamman Kovil in Sastri Circle recently.

Temple vice-chairman Krinovan Munien said there were around 100 to 150 devotees who also parti- cipated in the fire walking procession.

“Every year it gets bigger,” said Munien. “It was a very successful festival and we are looking forward to next year’s festival.”

This was the 19th kavady and fire walking the temple has held and Munien said its the biggest in the North Coast.

People come from as far as Mpumulanga, Richards Bay and Johannesburg to be part of the events.

“Speciall thanks to IPSS medical rescue, for their assistance at our auspicious times and Captain Stainbank and team from Tongaat SAPS and sponsors and members of the temple who assisted in making the event a success,” said Munien.
