Pre-festive season police operations yield positive results

A TOTAL of 12 suspects were arrested in Verulam over the weekend for various crimes ranging from attempted murder, possession of stolen property, business robbery, and rape.

The arrests were made during police operations conducted in Verulam and surroundings.

Police spokesperson in Verulam Captain Henry Kisten said: “Verulam detectives made a breakthrough in suspect raid operations.

“Hard working detectives under the command of Colonel Zanele Ndlovu conducted raid operations and arrested 12 suspects for offences varying from section 36 that is being in possession of stolen property, attempted murder, attempted carjacking, rape, murder, assault GBH and business robbery.

“The two suspects who were arrested for being in possession of stolen property that was stolen in a business robbery were positively identified by the complainant. Items included grinders, generators, fridge and a cutting torch,” Kisten said.

Cluster commander General Lucas Ngobeni and Verulam SAPS station commander Brigadier Patrick Dlamuka applauded the branch commander, Colonel Ndlovu, and her members for their dedication, hard work and commitment for the arrests and recoveries.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.

In another incident three suspects wanted for attempted carjacking and attempted murder were denied bail at the Verulam Magistrate’s court last week.

The suspects were linked to an attempted carjacking incident that happened in Phoenix and Inanda.

“It’s alleged that the suspects approached the victim and attempted to rob him of his vehicle. The victim was shot in the process.

“The suspects escaped in their getaway vehicle.

“Warrant officers Rajen Naiddoo and Vishnu Rajoo were assigned to investigate this case.

Three suspects were arrested.

“The investigating officers ap- plied their investigative skills and, during their course of investigations, they were able to link the suspects to other carjacking incidents committed in the Phoenix and Inanda areas.

“The suspects confessed to the attempted carjacking that took place in the Phoenix and Inanda areas,” Kisten said.

All three suspects will be remanded in Westville Prison until their next court next court appearance.

Kisten added: “Both investigating officers were complimented by the station commander Brigadier Dludla for their great work.”
