Railways excel in annual awards

THE Railways Cricket Club flew the 70-year-old club’s flag high at the annual KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union (KZNCU) and Durban and Districts Cricket Union (DDCU) awards at Hollywood Bets Kingsmead Cricket Stadium on Friday, May 11.

Railways Cricket Club has six teams affiliated to the various KZN leagues, three junior and three senior.

All of them had various degrees of success during the 2017/2018 season, with the U15 and Challenge Reserve teams earning silverware for their outstanding performances.

The Challenge Reserve squad successfully defended the title with consistency throughout the season. Team manager Johnson Naidoo was full of praise for his young charges, who despite various challenges over the season, rose to lift the title.

The U11 player, Nirav Maharaj, who also plays for the KZN RPC Hub team, out of Reservoir Hills, won the U11 RPC player of the year award.

Chairperson of club Anthony Chellan was equally ecstatic at the club’s success at the awards ceremony and heaped praise on all individuals involved in this success.
